The Year of the Panther

Ridgeland fall sports seem to be doing very well this year as Softball and Volleyball both battle their way into the Elite 8, and the Football team remains undefeated. Tuesday night, the Lady Panther Softball team took on Woodward Academy and swept them away in a 11-1 and 13-0 victory. They will advance to the Elite 8 and travel to Columbus on Wednesday Oct. 26. The Volleyball team also took home a win Thursday night against Troup with a 25-17, 25-19, 25-18 win, which put them in the Elite 8 for the first time in 14 years. The Volleyball team travels to Roswell, Georgia Saturday Oct. 22 to take on Columbus in the first round.

Softball fights their way into 6-4A Semi-finals

All it took was two games (11-5, 4-1) for the Lady Panther Softball team to fight their way into 6-4A semi-finals against county rivals, the Ramblers. The Lady Panthers are in the number one seed (16-7) and they will host the winner of the Heritage and Northwest game.

  • Ridgeland 11, LaFayette 5

The Lady Panthers quickly took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, and collected 5 more runs in the second inning. LaFayette quickly bounced back with a five run inning. Morgan Crawford provided 2 runs with her sixth home run of the year. Allison Wallin worked into the sixth inning, and was then subbed out for Crawford, who finished the game. Haley Sandridge had an amzing game, going 4 for 4 with a single, 2 doubles and a triple. Kiera Foster had two singles and add to Ridgeland’s 13 hits.

  • Ridgeland 4, LaFayette 1

Ciera Foster got a RBI single in the top first, but LaFayette quicly battled back and scored a solo run on an RBI single by Yancy. Katie Carruth scored a home run on a groundout by Sandridge. Davis helped out in the sixth inning by making an outstanding diving catch in foul territory to prevent LaFayette from scoring. But things got real in the fifth inning when singles hit by Hannah Blevins and Marquila Howell and a bunt by Mckenzie HougeĀ  loaded the bases. Crawford struck out Madison Harris, but Kayleigh Goff managed to hit a high chopper that landed just perfectly to bounce off the plate. The Lady Panther catcher Cortney Mooneyham caught the ball and forced Blevins to be out and then threw the ball to Grayson James at first base for the inning-ending double play.

The Lady Panthers will advance and play the winner of the Heritage v.s. Northwest game right here at home.
